Now Accepting Registrations for the High Dose Flu Vaccine

The fall 2024 Flu and Covid season is expected to begin in early-mid October and we're happy to confirm that all Heart Pharmacy locations will be offering the option of a High Dose Flu vaccine for interested and eligible patients. The High Dose Flu Vaccine is recommended for all adults over the age of 65, due to its ability to provide increased protection and reduce the risk of severe complications from influenza.

Unlike the provincially supplied Covid-19 and flu vaccines, the High Dose Flu vaccine is coordinated directly between the patient and the pharmacy. To ensure that we have sufficient High Dose Flu Vaccines available for interested patients, we ask that you confirm your interest in receiving the High Dose Flu Vaccine this year by filling out the form at this link.

By registering, here is what you can expect:

 - We will order a high dose flu vaccine for you and hold it until your scheduled appointment

  - We will contact you at the end of September to confirm the exact date that the High Dose Flu  Vaccines will arrive and to confirm at which pharmacy location, date, and time you would like an appointment. Currently the estimated delivery date for High Dose Flu Vaccines is early to mid October.

 - The High Dose Flu Vaccine will cost $95 payable at the time of your appointment. Several third party insurance plans cover part, or all of the cost.

  - If the province has supplied pharmacies with Covid-19 booster vaccines by the time of your High Dose Flu appointment, you will have the option of receiving a Covid-19 vaccine during the same appointment.

Why get your High-Dose Flu Vaccine?

High-Dose has four times the amount of antigen of the standard-dose flu shot, which helps produce a stronger immune response to the flu. In a clinical study, High-Dose vaccine was 24.2% more effective than the flu vaccine in preventing laboratory-confirmed influenza in people 65 years of age and older.

  1. Superior efficacy compared to standard dose (23% more effective at prevention)

  2. Reduces cardiorespiratory complications by 30%

  3. 4X the dose of Antigen (Addresses immunosenescence)

  4. No increase in adverse events
